My series ‘Utopian Complex ‘(2021) is a drawing project that expresses the inner exploration of the psychological state. The experience during this period of restrictions and limits on movement and travel made me rely on the Internet. For me, it only further highlighted the gap between the utopian world that can be found on the screen and the realities I face. I felt an anxiety between the collapsed boundaries between my reality and this virtual world. To reflect on this visually in my practice, I researched and collected images of the urban environment, as well as the luxurious interior spaces that are advertised online, and used them as visual material in my practice. I used human figures which are ambiguous in terms of gender or age, to express an anonymous individual in the city. The shape of the building mounted on their heads expresses the pressure in the city I experienced. The artificial colour painted with acrylic paint on top of this created drawing is introduced to evoke my feelings about life in a manipulated city where commercial graphics are poured out.
