Did you eat yet?

Even though I agonize over harsh realities and try to be a sincere artist, who can present a profound art piece to the public, any practical problem cannot be solved. It is the same story in a part of my basic life, ‘family’, is no reception.

The daily-based small ‘rupture ‘in a consanguinity, which is regarded as the closest relationship in human being, is unbeatable and unavoidable gap of miscommunication. I thought this gap does not exist only in my family but in all human relationships.

‘DID YOU EAT YET?(2015)’ is a video recording that starts from my wish to document and overcome that gap.

In 30minutes, conversation, my mother and myself talk about our thoughts about art, family and politics. I instructed her to say the sentence ‘DID YOU EAT YET?’ that I regard as the most typical sentence to express a material love in Korea. In addition to this, undesignated situation in the video and my acts that erase a number of examples in an art history work as devices, which reveal the complicate coexistence of art and reality and subjective impression to this coexistence.
